Queen Anne Highboy Project Details
High Level Plan
As you will see, the investment in curly cherry stock is quite high. It's the right wood for this chest of drawers; however, since I'm not sure I can complete the project satisfactorily, I want to minimize my financial exposure until the difficult steps are completed. The idea is to first order only the material required for turnings, carvings, and cabriole legs. I will work on these to completion and, if all is well at that point, continue with the rest of base, then the upper section, and finally finishing.

Goals
<> Financial: <$1200 for wood stock, cabinet hardware, and any special tools which may be required.
<> Hours: <250 hours.
<> Completion: Before the first snow flies in fall of 2001.

<> The first shipment of plain sawn and curly cherry required for all hand carved components...hard to believe 3 boards are worth this kind of money, but I couldn't find the materials locally, and I must admit that Mapleleaf Hardwoods (Hughesville, PA) has been outstanding to work with and seem to really understand how thier stock is used. For example, I asked for straight grained 12/4 cherry stock for the cabriole legs. Mapleleaf charged a premium for hand sorting to find what I was asking for, but I got good quality stock that will result in strong legs!
